I'm always on the lookout for new music. And because of that, I'm always discovering new bands. New to me, anyway. I remember one time I went to my friend Steve a few years ago and said, "hey, you need to check out this new band called Alice in Chains!" and he gave me a funny look because I thought they were new when they've been around since the 90's
But I guess one band I've really gotten into lately is Of Monsters and Men. I love that sound and it's great to help me write. They remind me of Death Cab for Cutie and even Mumford and Sons.
How about you?

Indeed! Have they been around a long time? Or a newish band?

They're new. I think they've only got one CD out.

Of Monsters and Men is indeed excellent.
One of my most pleasant discoveries lately has been The Boxer Rebellion. Their album Promises is one of my favorite 2013 releases.
I'd also recommend The Joy Formidable. They have a couple albums out and they're brilliant.
The Gaslight Anthem has become one of my favorite new bands. Their frontman is a Christian and all-around cool guy, not to mention they have amazing melodies and insightful lyrics. The '59 Sound is one of the most perfect and jaw-dropping records I've ever heard. It sounds cliche but it's one of those rare albums that really changed my life and they've been a band that has continued to impress me time and time again.
I've also been digging into Bruce Springsteen's catalogue quite a bit as well. I never really got into him and I'll admit his heavy-handed politics really turned me off. Once I ignored that and gave him a chance I'm finding myself really enjoying his work. I'm not fanatical about him like some are but he's pretty solid and I can understand why so many are crazy about him. So far my favorite albums of his are Tunnel of Love, The Rising, Born in the U.S.A., Magic, Darkness on the Edge of Down, Nebraska and Born to Run.

Not really a new band but Five Iron Frenzy made a new album last year. I like it.
