| I got this idea from a friend today. She told me that a friend of hers was setting her up with someone she did not know, so she googled his name and found out that he was arrested for drug possession.
I laughed so much when she told me she googled him. I first asked, how did she know it was even him if he has a typic name, she said, it was a name that wasn't typical and she found information that lead her to believe so.
OH! And my own personal story: When I was in grad school I lived in the library (lol). One day as I was looking for books a student came up to me and asked for help with his research. Because I was going to start my research in 6 months I really wanted to help him. He asked for my emails for follow up so I gave it to him. I met him a second time in the library to help him, and then a final time a few months later. Well, during the whole process he would email me and ask if we could hang out or go to dinner. I stated no I didn't want too because honestly, I wasn't interested. So after the final time I saw him, I thought about looking for him on FB. When I search for his name he did not come up. Well, during that time I was getting signatures for my school in support or supporting preschools. I looked at the list of people who signed and there was one name I did not recognize. I couldn't remember who it was at all. And then it hit me a few days later that it was him, he just had put a different last name and shorted his first name on the paper. Well, I search that on FB and low and behold I see him...with his lovely girlfriend. After that he emailed me continually for months asking to go for dinner and for months I ignored his emails.
So any of you have this happen to you? Would you search someone on FB or google to find out more about them?

| Yes. Then it's awkward when they say something you found out by creeping on them. You just sit there like "I know that!" but at the same time can't say that and act like you didn't know that. | |

| I remember you telling me about library creep.
I don't have any fun stories of my own to share. Not that I don't attract my own fair share of creeps, but they all tend to be rather upfront with me about their creepiness, so I don't have too google/facebook them. |

| Iv googled myself. The crazy thing is that somehow my DOB, address ETC was found on a Site. I have no idea how it got on there or who put it on. But I tried for months to get it off there, Then the site finally obliged and took it off. It was scary and crazy. | |

I've heard of that before. Apparently there are sites cataloguing personal information like that of Americans (I'm sure other countries too, but I only know of it for sure in USA). I read an article of a woman who was chased across 2 or 3 states by a stalker because of sites like that and how she had to fight with them to have her info removed. Thats just scary. |

| It is scary.
Another story is that I facebook friended this guy who I knew from work (not really a friend, just a guy from work). Then one day I get a message from one of my friends saying this guy I just added is a pervert. Im like "What are you talking about" and my friend is like "go to his page". So I go to his page and his interest is filled with weird sexual stuff and pictures of half naked women................ I was pretty shocked cause he didn't seem like a weirdo. but I guess he sort of was.

| Yeah, I will Facebook stalk someone to find out a little more about them. Its been pretty helpful to me. I don't do it in a creepy actual stalker way, I just do it if its for a date with someone I don't know. For safety I guess you could say. You just never know who you could be talking to. But its pretty creepy knowing people can look me up too. Not that I have anything to hide... its just creepy. | |

| I will admit that I've googled guys I've talked to online too. Its just another tool to make sure that the person you're talking to is who they claim. But never found anything that made me go, "danger! danger!"
I have had people surprise me by telling me they've found things about me online. I've got nothing to hide, but what they went searching for kinda weirded me out a bit.
There wasn't anything romantic going on, but I used to be enrolled at a long distance theology school, and would email occasionally with the head of my department, just casual "hows life" kind of stuff. And one day he told me that he tracked down one of the sites I was on and encouraged me in that because I was using it to share the gospel. And every so often, he'd bring it up.
To this day, I have no clue how he found it. |

| I heard from my friend's sister last night that she was chatting with a guy and he told her he was 18, just about to attend college. She had seen Catfish and so did some sleuthing using his picture...turned out he was a 22 year old porn star with multiple aliases and living in California.
Ugh, so creepy | |

| Can't say that I've had my own 'creeper' experience, but I would totally 'check someone out' on FB or whatever. Without a doubt. Hahaha. | |

Ugh, so creepy I did some catfish sleuthing myself and found out that a guy I used to talk to when I was younger (about 15-16) was NOT the guy I was talking to. It was quite scary to find this out, so yeah. I think nowadays it's okay to look people up like that to be safe.

Ugh, so creepy That is crazy. BTW I started watching the show catfish. The more I watched the more it seems like its fake. Only cause if someone was lying, Why would they then want to be exposed on national TV? I don't know, but the show is very creepy and sad (if its real).

| I've only seen one episode (and the movie), and I've wondered that myself. I think it could also be the personality. They lie and play games to sucker people in because they want the attention. What better way to get attention than to be on TV? Sure they're being outed as liars, but they (at least the little I've seen) end it by saying, "I've changed!" So they come out in the end feeling like they still have the power to manipulate because they have footage saying that they've addressed their sickness and are committed to change. Its just a game to them.
One catfish from CF responded the exact same way. She kept creating accounts to sucker guys in, and when the whole forum caught on to her, she publicly apologized and said, "never again! I've changed!" And then came back under another account and continued her act. And suckered more people in. |

| Hmmm Interesting. It may work if you've seen their face or if the name was rare, but there is always that 1% chance... I mean... Look at Sandi Patterson... Identity Thief. It may not apply to what you say, but I mean there is always a chance that it can be a mistake. Someone with same name... etc. | |

haha! Wanna know how differently my parents can think sometimes? Last month when I came to see you, they heard about the shooting in Santa Monica and started worrying that I had been hurt because I wasn't on Facebook replying to their messages (why they didn't just text me, I have no clue) So they knew your name because they'd seen letters and such come from you in the mail. And my dad decided he'd try to get in touch with you to make sure I was still alive. So he searched your name, Turns out there are a lot of women with your name in the area My family are a special people. Oy. |

| I Google myself. Just so I don't get any nasty surprises about what is out there on me in the interwebs. Wes (Noodles) and I had a bet one time that we could find each other's addresses in less than 5 minutes. I think that is the only time I've actively searched for information on a friend.
I don't use Facebook at all for stalking. I rarely ever look at my friends profiles either.
