| Buy some watermelons, pretend they're people you don't like, and introduce them to your shiny friend... | |

I may collect swords, but Im NOT one of those youtube loonies that dresses like a ninja and goes crazy on a bunch of water bottles and watermelons in my backyard thank you very much. I simply find swords to be a thing of beauty, as well as deadly. Not something I want to ever have to use, not only because of what having to use it means..... but, I also don't want to have to clean it just cause I went crazy on some melons. If I have to clean it and re-oil it, more than maintenance purposes it will be because it kept me alive. - Apricity wrote:

Thank you Joy Joy. Swords are great, but it all depends what you want one for. Not sure how much you know of them, but, stainless steel is nice if you just want to hang it and forget it. Stainless steel swords are not for use however, they just look pretty. If you want to hack at something you want a 1045 carbon steel blade at least. The bad side to a carbon blade however. It needs to be oiled or it will rust. It's not hard to do a basic cleaning/oiling. It does get a bit harder if you choose to dismantle the sword clean/oil it however to be thorough.

| No, I don't really do that sort of thing. I swing my swords, but I don't really swing to cut. I swing to get accustomed to how each sword is weighted. Even if I did cut watermelons, bamboo or anything else. This sword isn't ready, I need to take time and sharpen it. It was an inexpensive blade so its strength and its sharpness are not all that, the edge can be improved upon however. I have no doubts this sword could take out a soft-medium target, but there is no way this blade would hold up to a hard target, such as a traditional sword fight. (Good thing those aren't common in these parts.) In other words, if someone were to break in here. It could take care of them. If a Samurai were to break in here and I needed to use it to fight.... id be dead. But its a moot point anyway, even with the best blade against a seasoned professional such as a samurai......... id still be dead. | |

| My brother has a samurai sword and he fills milk cartons with water sometimes to play with them.
Btw have you ever heard of when Samurai would sell their blades for money and just keep the hilt for appearances? ^_^ So.. just because someone is a samurai.. doesn't mean they necessarily know how to fight. It's just a class status sometimes.

It's just a class status sometimes. I was meaning a true samurai, obviously not all of them could fight simply because they bore the title. Much like not all soldiers in the military can kill you with their thumb. But still, even the worst student of old training would likely destroy a 21st century collector with no official training.

| This kitty wasn't grumpy though. He just woke up so he wasn't fully awake. And when I petted him he purred. He was following me around earlier meowing at me. And when I left my room after taking this pic he followed me out. Maybe he knew I was leaving and wanted to say goodbye. | |
