We got in trouble for something, I don't remember what. Our punishment was to crack nuts open for like 5 hours. We started having competitions and creating games out of boredom after a while Razz

I know I'm hogging the picture thread, but I just found this a minute ago.  It was written by my mother.  It's about my Grandpa's captivity during WW2.  He was a POW.  Sorry if it's a little hard to read.

My Grandpa was an amazing man, and also an amazingly hard worker. The night he passed away, he was getting up the next morning to brand cattle. I think he was 86? I dont remember exactly. He paid for my brother, sister and I all to go to college.

I know everyone well enough in these pictures to know that they don't care about these pictures being seen.  We used them in the slideshow at the end of the school year, so it's not like other people haven't seen them.  I wouldn't post them on CF, but here I don't think it matters.

The ones I knew who were always a little nervous about their pictures I haven't posted.

Amber - Great pics! I like how you collaged them. ...And I'm assuming you hadn't had your coffee yet when you snapped that pic of the sky at 6 am? ...That would never fly with me. I would be one seriously unhappy camper.

I didn't find a Starbucks until about 9am Sad

I snapped the picture because I had driven around 7 hours that trip in rain so it was super exciting to see the sun.

Ethnog wrote:
just FYI for everyone, Amber totally called me on her drive to see her sister. =D

I admit, I'm one those "phone people". I would rather call someone than text, email, FB or anything else. I like the personal connection. Really the only reason I used text at all is out of respect for others who hate being on the phone. It was really exciting for me to talk to you "in person" instead of online so thanks for taking my call Kiss

I missed Amber's pictures before so I had to go back and look. You are freakin' beautiful! Looks like you had fun too Smile

Also... Spunk. I *just* saw the pictures of the baby goats and had an actual pang in my heart. They're so beautiful and they make me miss the goats that I had when I was little.

Them and Oakley and the horses... I may wind up camping out on *your* front lawn Razz

Also. I just read the story you posted. very moving. Made me think how God's hand was on his life during that time keeping him safe. Also made me wonder what would have happened to my own grandfather if he had been in the war. He was injured in training so was never allowed to fight like he originally planned and wound up working some administrative job in Scotland.

Although that turned out to be lucky, because thats where he met my gran =)

No, it definitely worked out the way it was supposed to :)funny how God's plans and ours don't always (or heck, rarely) align. but it always winds up for the best.

I think a lot of people are going to get to heaven, and God's going to say something like "Remember that time when I made you fall off the roof and kept you out of commission for 6 months? (or whatever happened). Yeah that saved your life because something worse was coming along later."

We get mad because we think today is so horrible, but today's pain may be saving us from tommorow or the future's nightmare. I can look back now and see a few of those where if things would continued going the way they were without God intervening, it would have been even worse, even though it felt awful at the time.

^ I looove peacocks. They're so exotic and beautiful. Where I used to live back in Orlando, we had this lady who lived across the street and...I don't know...she was like...one with the peacocks or something. All these male peacocks would flock to her house every single day. They were so pretty.
