Things that upset me at work

but I let it go because I just let it go, but I am going to make a thread and vent here.

"You don't need to work full time huh?"
"How old are you again?"
"You look like one of those rich girls!"
"Your skin is so white"
"Why do all the kids like you so fast?!"
"How do the kids listen to you so well?"

just FYI, I haven't only gotten these comments at the new place. I would get them all the time when I would sub.

That's true, you are awesome.

That's pretty crazy what people say sometimes, like they aren't thinking.

I can understand asking about how do the kids listen to you and like you, because maybe they want to be better at their job and wish they were like you.

I can tell immediately from your presence/personality why kids would like you though.

I think it's just the contexts we are in and knowing a few I sadly don't believe they ask about the kids for that reason.

Here is what my own job is like sometimes (minus me being as great an artist as Mozart):

That stinks; I would get comments like that and then I would never mingle with the staff because of it; just focus all my "free" time (haha) and energy into things for my students.

thats unfortunate people can be so unthinking. I also think its silly that full grown adults would be jealous because the kids like you. Kids really aren't that hard to connect with. Get down on their level and *listen* to them. Play with them. Let them know they have value.

They're just like actual people that way, surprisingly enough.

Aside from the first two, perhaps, I don't see how they're offensive.

What planet are your coworkers from? Its as if they have no idea how to behave in a professional situation.

1) Maybe I don't what business is it of yours?

2) I dont see why that matters

3) Just cause I make everything look like a million bucks, don't mean I'm rich.

4) Skin color doesnt bother me, sorry we dont share a similar view.

5) Because I am everything you aren't I am a good teacher and I actually care.

6) Because I have a soothing voice, one that calms even the Toro.

LT she always asked me that because she couldn't understand how I worked with a child who misbehaved a lot.
I told her I treat the child like a human being.

I remember getting compliments for being so patient with KS when she'd act out, but I never understood that, honestly. She's a person. She gets cranky and frustrated, just like anyone else. She just hasn't learned yet how to properly channel or control those frustrations, and me getting angry with her won't teach her how to do that.

Part of dealing with people, of any age, is to understand where they're coming from. Their strengths and their limitations and working with those to meet them halfway.

It always makes me laugh when people judge children, when they can't even do the same thing at 20 something, 30 something, 50 something...please!
